Vernard Ernest Young was born March 22, 1914 at Plainview to Charles Andrew Young and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Williams and passed away March 14, 2004 at Plainview. He was married to Vera Evelyn Petersen March 1, 1936 at the Crawford Valley Methodist Church. To this union three children were born, Eugene, Twila and Sharon. Vernard attended elementary school at District 48 in Antelope County and graduated from Plainview High School. All three of his children also attended the rural school located in a corner of the farm. The couple farmed side by side in the Crawford Valley Community for more than 40 Years. They were both members of that church for over 50 years; They moved into Plainview upon retirement and became members of the Plainview United Methodist Church in that community. Vernard and Vera enjoyed many winters:. at their winter home in Florida. After Vera's death in 2000, he still went to Florida for winters and lived in his own home in Plainview until fall of 2003wl1en he moved in Whispering Pines Assisted Living in Plainview and recently moved into the Plainview Manor. He enjoyed his life and loved playing cards with his friends and family. His greatest delight was his family. He never tired of watching the little people in his life. Vernard was preceded in death by his wife, Vera. parents. one brother. Kenneth and two sisters Grayce Snodgrass and Lucille Jensen and one grandchild. Survivors include his children and their spouses. Eugene and Barbara Young and Sherry and Mike Gustman of Plainview and Twila and Doug Ober of Creighton; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and two great - great-grandchildren
