Vera Evelyn Young was born February 12. 1918 in the Stark Valley area of Plainview to Arthur "Willie" and Laura (Hemmingsen) Petersen. She departed this earthly life January 5, 2000 at Bradenton. FL. As one of eight children. she enjoyed a loving and fun-filled childhood that continued throughout her life. On March I. 1936. she was ,united in marriage to Vernard Young at the Crawford Valley United Methodist Church. To this union. three children were born: Eugene, Twila and Sherry. Vera and Vernard farmed side-by-side in the Crawford Valley community for over 40 years. She was a member of the Crawford Valley United Methodist Church for over 50 years and belonged to the Crawford Valley Extension Club. They moved into town in Plainview 16 years ago and shortly thereafter became members of the Plainview United Methodist Church. Vera was a member of United Methodist Women in both churches. Vera especially enjoyed bike riding. fishing. playing cards and visiting with family and friends. She and Vernard have spent many enjoyable winters in Florida. Preceding her in death we're her parents: brothers, Leslie. Edwin and Harvey Petersen: sisters, Esther Lambert and Stella Miller and one grandchild. She is survived by children Eugene and Barbara Young of Plainview. Twila and Doug Ober of Creighton and Sherry and Mike Gustman of Plainview. Vera dearly loved all her family and is also survived by brother. Dwain Petersen: sister. Alta Rea. eight grandchildren. ten great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild that were the "lights of her life".
