Description	:	Verne M. "Bud" Gleason, 86, died December 14, 2011, at Leisure Homestead, St. John. He was born April 1, 1925 in rural Stafford County, to I. Verne and Mabel P. Broadbooks Gleason. He was a farmer/stockman and was the fourth generation to work the family farm. Bud graduated from Radium High School in 1943. Read More	Verne M. "Bud" Gleason, 86, died December 14, 2011, at Leisure Homestead, St. John. He was born April 1, 1925 in rural Stafford County, to I. Verne and Mabel P. Broadbooks Gleason. He was a farmer/stockman and was the fourth generation to work the family farm. Bud graduated from Radium High School in 1943. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Larned, former member of The American Polled Herford Association, Kansas Quarter Horse Association, Wheat Growers Association, Ducks Unlimited, The Eagle Lodge, and was formerly on the board of directors of the Dillwyn Grain and Supply Company. He married Lorene Dykes on August 5, 1944 at Radium, they were married for 55 years. She died April 24, 2000. They farmed nearly 50 years north of St. John and south of Radium. Bud was interested in soil conservation and he built terraces on his farm ground and planted shelter belts to conserve the topsoil. He was a wheat farmer who thoroughly enjoyed nature and tilling of the Kansas soil. He was an avid hunter/fisherman. He passed on to his children a strong work ethic and the importance of being honest. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother, Don Gleason. Survivors include his children, Patrick V. Gleason and wife Janet, Radium, Darryl W. Gleason, Wichita, Debra D. Kisner and husband Roger, Hays, and Karla M. Stevens and husband Stephen, Normal, Illinois, grandchildren, Dalton Gleason, Atlanta Gleason, John Kisner and Laura Kisner, great grandchild, Briauna Kisner, sister, Vergene Kugler, Lawrence and brother, Bob Gleason, Wichita Memorials service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 at Morell Funeral Home, Larned, with Pastor Bob Gleason presiding. Visitation will be from Noon until 8:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home. The casket will remain closed. Burial will be in Larned Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Future Farmers of America in care of Morell Funeral Home, P.O. Box 124, Larned, Ks. 67550-0124.
