His wife, Betty Cooley Stark Cox, whom he married May 2, 1956, in West Terre Haute, preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 1994.Survivors include a stepson, Dennis Stark and wife Jeri of West Terre Haute; a sister, Lucy Layton and husband Dean of West Terre Haute; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Cyrus and Francis Cox of Rapid City, S.D., Samuel and Janet Cox of Davenport, Iowa, Richard and Martha Cox of Sullivan, David and Betty Cox of Terre Haute, and Charles and Rose Cox of West Terre Haute; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, David Stark; two brothers, George Cox and James Cox; and two sisters, Mary Ann Tatlock and Ilene Donham.He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574, a member of American Legion Post 501, and the Young Men's Club, all in West Terre Haute. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Dennis Leek officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Memorial Park, with graveside military rites by the VFW Post 6574 honor guard. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, and 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday. The family suggests that, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
