Description	:	Veronica E. Ray, 75, of Spalding died on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at Friendship Villa in Spalding. Mrs. Ray was born Aug. 2, 1934, at Spalding to Fred and Irene (Nott) Pfeifer. On Feb. 16, 1953, Veronica was united in marriage to John Jay Ray at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jay" in 1973, and four children, John Jr., Pamela, Joseph and David. Ray, 75, of Spalding died on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at Friendship Villa in Spalding. Mrs. Ray was born Aug. 2, 1934, at Spalding to Fred and Irene (Nott) Pfeifer. On Feb. 16, 1953, Veronica was united in marriage to John Jay Ray at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jay" in 1973, and four children, John Jr., Pamela, Joseph and David. Survivors of the immediate family include four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Jerri Ray, Daniel and Peg Ray, Denny and Kathy Ray, all of Spalding and Charlie and Jaime Ray of Primrose; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Trish and Michael Halliday, Kathleen and Philip Repp, all of Benton, Ill., Janet and Patrick Morgan of West Frankfort, Ill., Karen and Alan Ranslem of Albion and Cheryl Ray of Spalding; 25 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Harold and Veronica Pfeifer, Leonard Pfeifer, Raymond and Colleen Pfeifer; three sisters, Charlotte Baldwin, Agnes Gielish and Margie Ann Hogg; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Pfeifer and a host of relatives and friends. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding, attended a country school through the 8th grade, and Spalding Academy through the 10th grade. Veronica and John "Jay" made their home in Spalding, where Veronica waitressed at Kealy's Tavern and Bowl for 35 years, along with working at the Sale Barn. She was not only loved and cherished as a mother, but also as a father to her children. She will be missed by the Spalding community for her coffee serving, pie and cake baking, salad making and ice cream bar tossing at Kealy's. She was a member of St. Anne's Alter Society, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and viewing various sporting activities; having a passion for Husker sports and Braves baseball. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, JoEllen Aldrige; four brothers, Robert, Charles, Paul and Mark. Published in The Grand Island Independent on 1/28/2010
