Description	:	Victor A. Benway was born in Jefferson county, New York, April 15, 1864, and passed to the Home Above February 17, 1927; aged sixty-two years, ten months and two days. His parents moved to Missouri when he was but five years of age, and their home was at Brookfield, Mo. In 1889 he came to Fairmont and has lived her continuously ever since. Read More	Victor A. Benway was born in Jefferson county, New York, April 15, 1864, and passed to the Home Above February 17, 1927; aged sixty-two years, ten months and two days. His parents moved to Missouri when he was but five years of age, and their home was at Brookfield, Mo. In 1889 he came to Fairmont and has lived her continuously ever since. He was married to Miss Ione Stookey on February 27, 1895. To this union there were given three children, Gladys(Mrs. George Jensen), Floyd and Ruth. There are also two grandsons, Victor Allen and Earl Lee Jensen. These, together with the devoted and faithful wife are left to mourn their loss. Three sisters and one brother of Mr. Benway survive him: Mrs. S.M. Riggs of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Mrs. J.A. Dodd and J.F. Benway of Brookfield, Missouri, and Mrs. J. H. Smith of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Mr. and Mrs. Benway united with the Congregational church of Fairmont on December 23rd, 1906. When it was decided to build the Fairmont Federated church, Mr. Benway was chosen chairman of the building committee. No man ever was truer to a trust than he was to this work, even to the smallest detail. Many things in connection with the construction of the building would never have been thought of but for his interest and care. The pastor of the church bears testimony to the fact that Mr. Benway was always ready when called upon, no matter what he might be doing for himself. On December 19, almost exactly twenty years from the day he and his wife stood in the church altar to be received into the church, he stood in the church altar of the New Federated church to present the keys of the church to the president of the board of trustees, preparatory to the dedication of the church, and it was a proud moment in his life. Last Thursday afternoon the pastor stood beside his bed and led in prayer at the conclusion of which Mr. Benway very fervently said "Amen." None of us had a thought then of his leaving us son soon, but it certainly does emphasize the thought that we should always be ready for we know not the day nor the hour which will be our last on earth. For twenty-eight years, Mr. Benway was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and a member of the board of managers in that organization. He was a director of the Farmers Co-Operative Association of Fairmont. He became a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge in 1901 and of the Encampment later and had just taken the Samaritan degree a few weeks ago. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Odd Fellows lodge and as such took great interest in looking after the Odd Fellows Building. Whatever "Vic" Benway did, he always did in a most thorough manner. He'll be missed in his church, he;ll be missed in his lodges, and he'll be missed in many forms o f business life with which he was connected. How much he'll be missed in the home only those who have passed through a like affliction can in any way begin to realize. Funeral services were conducted in the Federated church by his pastor, Rev. W.F. Perry, D.D., on Monday morning, February 21, 1927, at 10:00 o'clock, and his body was laid to rest in the Fairmont cemetery. Members of the I.O.O.F. and M.W. of A. fraternities were present in formal order. The services were largely attended. Relatives present from other states were Mrs. J.A. Dodd, Brookfield, Mo.; Mrs. J.H. Smith, Fayetteville, Arkansas; Kerus Stookey, Wilbur, Washington. Floyd Benway, the son, was employed on a Rock Island engine run out of El Reno, Oklahoma, and was unable to reach home until after his father had passed away. He arrived in Fairmont Saturday morning.
