Her sister, Miss Julia Stoltenberg, who teaches in Spokae, Wash., rushed to her bedside by plane when she was informed that complications had developed and her condition was critical, being with her a week preceding her death. Vilma Amanda Stoltenberg was born Sept. 9, 1891, on the home farm in Eagle township where she spent her childhood and girlhood days. While still a small child she was baptized in the Lutheran faith and when of a suitable age was confirmed at this altar by Rev. W.P. Rehwaldt, being a member of the class of 1900. She attended the rural school in Eagle township and later entered the Hawarden high school, graduating with the class of 1911. She entered the Cook County hospital in Chicago and after completing a three years' training course was graduated from that institution in 1914 as a trained nurse. After completing her training she followed her chosen profession in various places and capacities, ably and efficiently filling positions of City Nurse and Red Cross nurse in the city of Chicago and other places and her last position was in a Veterans' hospital in Algers, La. It was while engaged in this work that she contracted the disease from which she suffered nearly four years and to which after a brave and valiant fight she finally succumbed. She leaves to mourn her death her mother, Mrs. H.A. Stoltenberg of Hawarden; three sisters, Miss Harriet of New York City; Miss Julia of Spokane, Wash.; and Mrs. Edna Wilkins of Hawarden, and three brothers, Albert, Henry and George of Hawarden. Her father preceded her in death July 19, 1929. Those from a distance who came to attend the funeral were Miss Harriet Stoltenberg of New York City and Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Bigelow, Mrs. Will Schneckloth, Mrs. Albert Fink, Irvin Baumier, Nick Haas and Mrs. Rudolph Weise of Gladbrook, Iowa.
