She died at the Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View, Iowa, on Wednesday, August 14, 1996, at the age of seventy-nine. Viola was born near Ricketts, Iowa and was baptized in Christ at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa, by Rev. Frese and later confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak. Read More	Viola (Boyens) Jess (1916 - 1996) Viola Jess was born November 6, 1916, the daughter of Lorenz and Minnie Ludwig Boyens. She died at the Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View, Iowa, on Wednesday, August 14, 1996, at the age of seventy-nine. Viola was born near Ricketts, Iowa and was baptized in Christ at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa, by Rev. Frese and later confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak. She received her education at the Immanuel Lutheran School, Soldier Township. After her education, Viola helped on the family farm until her marriage to Fred Jess on July 6, 1936, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township. The couple made their home on a farm in Crawford County until 1955 when they moved to Colorado, where Viola was employed as a housekeeper by the University of Colorado. In 1962, the couple returned to Crawford County and made their home in Ricketts. Viola was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Ricketts, their Ladies Aid and the Senior Citizens. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who was very caring of her family. In her leisure time, Viola enjoyed fishing, playing cards and loved cooking, especially preparing a special dessert for each of her children. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 1985. Survivors include four daughters, Janice Peterson and her husband, Dale; Carol Domino and her husband, Burdette, all of Sac City; Jerrie Wigg and her husband, Glenn; Julie Teut and her husband, Lowell, all of Schleswig; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren; also one sister, Irene Jensen of Ricketts and one brother, Ray Boyens of Charter Oak. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 1996, at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ricketts, Iowa. Rev. Eugene Ernst officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Marlene Lee provided the organ accompaniment for granddaughter, Bambi Schrader singing, "Amazing Grace" and congregational hymn "How Great Thou Art". Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Patrick Laursen, Bambi Schrader, Nancy Bellcock, Jerod Petersen, Kandi Kolpin, Keri Petersen, Bridget Baer, Vicki Dehner, Tracy Kuehl, Kelli Marte and Randy Kuehl. Pallbearers were Mark Peterson, Dave Schrader, Robin Kolpin, Brandon Wigg, Kim Laursen and Brett Wigg. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.
