Read More	BOYENS, Irene Elizabeth Denison Bulletin Tuesday, May 6, 2003 Irene Elizabeth Jensen was born September 23, 1918, the daughter of Lorenz and Wilhemina Ladwig Boyens. She died Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at her home in Ricketts, Iowa at the age of eighty-four. Irene was born in Goodrich Township near Denison, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on November 3, 1918 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Frese. At the age of four she moved with her family to farm east of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. There Irene attended parochial school through the eighth grade and was confirmed on March 30, 1932, also at Immanuel Lutheran Church. In 1943, Irene was united in marriage to Meinert Jensen at Tampa, Florida and spent four years there while Meinert was in the Army Air Corp during World War II. In 1947, they moved back to Ricketts, Iowa where they owned a trucking business. The couple were blessed with two daughter, Zeone and Michele. Irene worked in various homes and cafes in her earlier years. She later worked for the Schleswig-Ricketts School as a cook and janitor for nineteen years before retiring. Irene was a devout member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts. She was also a member of St. Luke's Ladies Aid and LLL. She was active in many organizations including the Ricketts, 3930 Auxiliary, The Golden Club and Senior Citizens. In her leisure time, Irene enjoyed making quilts as wedding gifts for her family and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1978, a grandson, Scott Gloede, one sister Viola Jess and one brother, Raymond Boyens Sr. Survivors include two daughters, Zeone DeMarrais and her husband Steve of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Michelle Phillips and her husband Bob of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Christine DeMarrais, Jason DeMarrais, Andrea Sandy and Chad Gloede and four great grandchildren, Taylor Sandy, Scott Gloede Offutt, Briar Swagger, and Kassidy DeMarrais; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 am, Friday, April 25, 2003 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts, Iowa. Rev. Eugene Ernst officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Marlene Lee provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Bambi Schrader singing "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound" and congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But a Stranger Here". Those serving as honorary pallbearers were: Jason DeMarrais, Chris DeMarrais, Andrea Sandy and Chad Gloede. Pallbearers were: Raymond Boyens, Jr., Barbara Van Horn, Jerrie Lynn Wigg, Susan Sievers, Carol Domino, and Julie Teut. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
