Violet Catherine Popham, daughter of Jesse and Pauline (Grewing) Popham, was born on November 23, 1914 at Andover, SD. This is the area where she was raised and attended school, graduating from Andover High School. She continued her education at Northern State University in Aberdeen, where she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She was united in marriage to Victor Oltman on June17, 1943 at Watertown, SD. They made their home in Hecla. For many years Violet taught school in the Hecla area, teaching elementary school in Pierpont, Butler and Webster before finishing her teaching career at Hecla. Upon her retirement, Violet taught school for a total of 33 years. In 1999 the couple began making their home in Aberdeen. Violet's beloved husband Victor died on March 23, 2002. Violet's greatest joy came from being with her family and friends. She truly cherished and enjoyed every moment she spent with them. Grateful for having shared Violet's life are her children, Paula Oltman, Aberdeen, Stephen Oltman, Fridley, MN, Jean (Tom) Hutchcraft, Colorado Springs, CO, grandchildren, Connie (Gavin) Rueb, Rob (Cathy) Dafoe, great grandchildren, Nicole, Wesley and Eric Rueb, Jacob, Thomas, and Samuel Dafoe. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Vic, infant son, Thomas Arthur Oltman, brother, Cyril Popham and sister, Virginia Woodburn.
