Description	:	Violet Leona Brehmer was born on July 6, 1915 to Hans and Anna (Larsen) Hansen on a farm east of Brayton, Iowa. She attended country school through elementary years and then went through 8th at Oakfield Academy in Oakfield, east of Brayton. She worked as a hired girl for many families. Read More	Violet Leona Brehmer was born on July 6, 1915 to Hans and Anna (Larsen) Hansen on a farm east of Brayton, Iowa. She attended country school through elementary years and then went through 8th at Oakfield Academy in Oakfield, east of Brayton. She worked as a hired girl for many families. Vi was a "Nanny" for Mayme Kay and had to wait until Larry Kay was born before she and Les were married on September 3, 1939 in the Peace Church parsonage. (One fun thing to contribute is that she and Lester took Marcella, Mayme's 2 year old on dates with them as she was being potty trained) To this union, two sons were born, Delbert and Gerald. Les and Violet rented farms in Shelby and Pottawattamie counties before buying farms in those counties. Vi recalls their first new car being a 1948 Ford and remembers how traumatic it was when the bumper was hit in the rear while they were at a football game of a nephew, Burdette. Les and Vi took many trips together including flying to Morocco with friends. They also took many bus trips after retirement. Violet and Lester were avid dancers and enjoyed dancing and socializing with many friends through Southwest Iowa. Violet loved to quilt and knot. She was active in several card clubs around the Walnut area aas well as active in the Church Women's fellowship, Bible study, Altar Guild and church quilting group. After Lester moved to the nursing home in 2001, Violet continued to be a dedicated caregiver, as she drove to Atlantic daily. She continued her loving care by sitting, reading and assisting him daily while keeping him comfortable. Due to a massive stroke, Violet died on Monday, January 25, 2010 at the Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, while on Hospice Care after hip surgery. She attained the age of ninety-four years, six months and nineteen days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Lester; son, Gerald; three brothers: Martin, Earl and Ernest Hansen and sister Elna Stadsvold who passed Dec., 2009 and one brother-in-law, Holger Stadsvold. She is survived by her son Delbert (Judy) Brehmer of Council Bluffs; grandsons, Jay (Carol) Brehmer of Overland Park, KS; Jeff (Suzi) Brehmer of Carter Lake, IA, five great grandchildren with another one arriving shortly, two sisters-in-law: Frances Hansen and Alverta Hansen. Funeral was held January 29, 2010 at the Peace United Church in Walnut with burial in Layton Township Cemetery next to her husband and son.
