Description	:	Stratford Courier November 8, 1934 Virgil Carl Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Johnson, was born July 9, 1918 and died Oct. 30, 1934, at the age of 16 years, 3 months, 22 days. His death came following an illness of four weeks with typhoid fever. He leaves to mourn his death his parents, one sister, Arlene, and a brother, Orland, Orin Kenneth died in infancy. He also leaves his grandfather, Axel Anderson, other relatives and many friends to mourn his early death. Virgil's entire life had been spent within the family circle and he had always been a strong and healthy boy. On Oct. 12, 1926, he was baptized in the local Lutheran church and was a member of the last confirmation class, being confirmed on Oct. 1, 1933. He was a member of the sophomore class of Stratford High School, beloved of his classmates and teachers, as well as by all who knew him. The grief of his father and mother, sister and brother is shared by his many friends and associates who had come to know him as a very dependable boy in all his relationships. Funeral services were held in the Lutheran church Friday afternoon, following a short service in the home with the Rev. Anton Chell in charge. His text was from Ecclesiastes 12:1: "Remember now thy creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them." A male quartet composed of Gust Erickson, Lester Anderson, Raymond Berglund and Leonard Anderson sang "Rock of Ages" and "Beautiful Land." Four girls from Virgil's confirmation class: Eileen Anderson, Florence Bergman, Lucille Frederickson and Vernice Sterner, sang the confirmation song, "O Jesus, I Have Promised." These girls, together with the four boys of the class, Omar Bergman, Lester Bergman, Marvin Carlson and Melvin Sonnerholm, served as honorary pallbearers and the active pallbearers were Raynold Appelquist, Cecil Thorington, Billy Harvey, Charles Hendricks, Robert Shaeffer, Dale Kane. The members of the sophomore class of Stratford High School, of which he was a member, attended the service in a body. Interment was made in the South Marion Cemetery.
