Description	:	Virgil John Fasse, 86, of Waverly IA (formerly of Denver) passed at the Shell Rock Health Care Center on Saturday, September 24, 2016. Virgil was born on January 2, 1930, in rural Readlyn, Iowa, the son of William and Margaret (Nolte) Fasse. He was baptized January 26, 1930 at Zion Lutheran in Readlyn. He was confirmed in March of 1942, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran, Maxfield, Denver, IA. Virgil started country school at age 4 and graduated from Readlyn High School in 1947. Virgil was born on January 2, 1930, in rural Readlyn, Iowa, the son of William and Margaret (Nolte) Fasse. He was baptized January 26, 1930 at Zion Lutheran in Readlyn. He was confirmed in March of 1942, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran, Maxfield, Denver, IA. Virgil started country school at age 4 and graduated from Readlyn High School in 1947. On October 16, 1949, he was united in marriage to Evenell (Jean) Beard at Immanuel Lutheran in Waterloo. Jean died November 4, 2002. The couple farmed 8 years before moving to Denver. Virgil worked delivering freight for Takin and PIE. He also worked at the Denver Sunset Home in maintenance, reading meters for the city of Denver, EMT for Denver Ambulance Service, and drove school bus for Denver and Janesville. Virgil was a volunteer at the Denver meal site where he delivered meals and enjoyed sharing jokes and stories with the seniors. Virgil was united in Marriage to Marlene Westendorf - Becker - McKenzie on November 28, 2003 at St Peter Lutheran, Denver. Virgil served on the board of the Denver Sunset Home for 12 years. He served as Sunday school superintendent for 20 years, Sunday school teacher, property and board management member and council member of St. Peter Lutheran. He was also chairman of the Bremer County Council on Aging, and received the Governor's Volunteer Award. He enjoyed getting together with family and friends, camping, playing cards and square dancing. Virgil and Marlene traveled to Germany, Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii and throughout the US in their 5th wheel and with the 4-F Sams. They wintered in Arizona and Texas. He is survived by his wife, Marlene, three daughters and spouses, Connie (Larry) Wedemeier of Oran, Karen (Todd) Sergeant of Raleigh, NC, Denise (Bill) Stowman of Johnston: step-children and spouses Debra (Lee) Brandos of Cedar Falls, Dave (Lori) Becker of Cedar Falls and Lori (Ben) O'Hare of Waverly; grandchildren; Lyn (Chris) Wedemeier, Rod (Jamie) Wedemeier, Cory (Erin) Wedemeier, Shannon (Jon) Pence and James Beasley; step-grandchildren Amy (Brian) Adamson, Jonathon (Olivia) Diercks and Kaleb O'Hare; great grandchildren, Shawn Sergeant, Summer Pence, Autumn, Owen, Austin, & Carter Wedemeier; step great-grandchildren Kresten Davis, Jaden and Cole Adamson; one brother, Venice (Sharon) Fasse of Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evenell (Jean); infant daughter, Diane, his parents, brothers Pastor Vernon & Victor Fasse, sister Violet Bock, sister-in-laws Elnora, Mick, Frieda and Judy Fasse. Brother-in-law Wilbert Bock. Step grandson, Chad Brandos. Funeral services will held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. Peter Lutheran, with Pastor Ron Mathews officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Denver. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also an hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
