Description	:	Virgil was born April 8, 1929 at the Fremont Hospital, the eldest son of Martin and Paula 'Marx' Hilbers. He grew up in Scribner, was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was a member of the United Lutheran Church. Virgil graduated from Scribner High School in 1947. Virgil married Darlene Jelinek on June 22, 1950 at the United Lutheran Church in Scribner. He grew up in Scribner, was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was a member of the United Lutheran Church. Virgil graduated from Scribner High School in 1947. Virgil married Darlene Jelinek on June 22, 1950 at the United Lutheran Church in Scribner. They were the parents of three children, Janis, Jeri and Royce. The couple spent much of their married life in Scribner where Virgil first worked as a feed truck driver. Following that he worked for the Farmers Co-op, later becoming one of their drivers. Virgil established his own livestock trucking business, Hilbers Transfer, in 1965. Virgil was a founder and original member of the Scribner Rescue Squad. He and Fred Herbolsheimer brought the first rescue rig back from Ohio in 1962. Virgil was also a life long member of the Scribner Fire Department. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. Following his retirement in 1987, the couple moved to Lincoln. Virgil enjoyed several part-time jobs and continued fishing at Branched Oak Lake. Survivors: Wife - Darlene of Lincoln 2 Daughters - Janis husband Terry, Wendt of Ogden, IA. Jeri Janecek of Dodge, NE. Son - Royce Hilbers of Peculiar, MO. Grandchildren: Ryan Wendt and fiancé Melinda Schlickbernd, Brandon Wendt, Cameron Wendt, Jennifer and husband Mitch Schmidt, Joel Janecek, Brian and wife Jamie Hilbers; Great grandchildren: Logan Williams, Taylor Wendt, Lauren and Abigail Schmidt, Shayla, Makenna and Dayne Hilbers; Brothers - Dean Hilbers of Burwell and Eugene Hilbers of Scottsbluff Sister - Janet Killingsworth of Scribner; sister-in-law, Lois Hilbers of Omaha; sister-in-law - and brother-in-law Geraldine and Lumir Kudera of Clarkson, nieces and nephews. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Charles Janecek, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law. The funeral will be 10:30am Friday July 10 at United Lutheran Church in Scribner. The Rev. Dr. Nicki McIntyre will officiate. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and the Scribner Fire and Rescue. Visitation will be Thursday at the United Lutheran Church in Scribner from 3pm to 8pm with the family receiving friends from 5pm to 8pm. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in the St. Paul's Cemetery north of Hooper. Ludvigsen's Scribner Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
