Description	:	Son of Glen & Astrid (Nelson) Gotschall. Before settling in Monroe where Virgil graduated from high school, the family lived in Niobrara and Newman Grove, Nebraska. On September 30, 1950, Virgil married DeLores Schmidt at the Methodist Church in Monroe. On November 30, 1950 Virgil entered the US Army during the Korean War. On September 30, 1950, Virgil married DeLores Schmidt at the Methodist Church in Monroe. On November 30, 1950 Virgil entered the US Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany and traveled to Holland, France, and Belgium. He was honorably discharged on November 14, 1952. He then went to work for the Monroe Grain and Alfalfa Company. It later became known as the Monroe Grain Company and then the Foxley Grain Company. Virgil worked a total of 37 years for these firms. He then worked 15 years as a security guard for Lindsay Manufacturing. On March 7, 2005, Virgil moved into the Nebraska Veterans Home in Norfolk. Virgil was a member of the Mason's and the Order of Eastern Star for nearly 50 years. He served on the local Boy Scouts board for 10 years and was a member of the Boy Scout Honor Society - Order Of The Arrow. He enjoyed camping with the scouts at Camp Cedars (near Fremont, Nebraska), canoeing the Platte River, and the camping trips to the Black Hills. For 42 years, Virgil was a member of the Monroe Fire Department, serving as chief for many years. He was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years. Virgil served on the Monroe Public Schools Board of Education for 12 years as secretary/treasurer. He was a member of the Monroe Methodist Church for over 50 years and served as trustee, usher, and president of the Brotherhood. Virgil loved his family and his friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, flying, music, and sports. He especially loved to feed the birds and watch the cardinals that would come to eat.
