Death came as the result of severe burns, received early that day. Virgil, and his four year old brother, Roland, were in the house, Monday forenoon, while their mother had gone next door to her sister's home. Soon the confusion in the Ray residence called the mother home, to find her tiny son completely enveloped in flaming clothing. The small boys had been playing with matches, when Virgil's clothes were ignited, and the painful burns covered chest, back and arms. The little boy was hurried to the office of a local physician, for first aid and then was taken to the Mercy hospital in Bay City, at noontime. Death occurred at about two o'clock. Virgil Ray was born in Beaverton December 7, 1924, and soon came to Midland with his parents to make his home. In addition to the parents, four brothers survive: Willis, aged 9; Russell, 8; Everett, 6; and Rolland, 4. The funeral service was held at the home, Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 29, at 1:30, with Rev. Howard A. Webster of the Baptist church officiating. Interment was made in Dale cemetery, near Beaverton. Gladwin County Record dated 38/1928
