She died of head injuries received Aug. 25 when she fell down steps outside her home in Washington. Mrs. Dailey began her career at the Labor Department in 1938 and retired in 1970. Her work included counseling disabled people and federal prison inmates. In the 1920s, she was a teacher at a one-room schoolhouse in a community then known as Buck Lodge in upper Montgomery County. She was born in Buck Lodge. She had polio as a child and walked with the assistance of crutches and later leg braces until she was 16. She graduated from Gaithersburg High School and Towson Teachers College. In retirement, Mrs. Dailey and her husband, James Frederick Dailey, lived in a country house in Mathews, in the Tidewater area of Virginia. She returned to this area after he died in 1985. Survivors include a daughter, Irene Patricia Lombardo of Washington; and a grandson. Obituary Frederick News-Post, September 4, 2001 Mrs. Vivian Reid Dailey, 94, of Washington, died Thursday Aug. 30, at Sibley Hospital, Washington. She was the wife of the late James F. Dailey. Born Dec. 22, 1906, in Bucklodge, near Boyds, she was the daughter of the late William Oakley and Alice Irene Young Reid. Surviving is one daughter, Irene D. Lombardo of Washington; one grandson, Kevin Lombardo and wife Eileen of Virginia; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by one brother, William Oakley Reid Jr.; and one granddaughter, Irene Vivian Lombardo. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Sept. 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 18230 Barnesville Road, Barnesville. Interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lombardi Cancer Center, New Research Building, Room E501, 3970 Reservoir Road, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20007 in the name of her granddaughter, Irene Vivian Lombardo. NOTE: Vivian is buried in this location—away from her husband—so her daughter, Irene, can be buried next her father and daughter in Row G, Lot 30 Lower, Site 6.
