Ritchie, 60, Little Current, friend and grocery man to thousands of U.S. visitors to Manitoulin Island, founded by his father before him, the business operated on the same site since 1888. Death came suddenly in St. Joseph's General Hospital here Saturday following a heart attack suffered two days before. He is survived by one son, David, Little Current, and a sister, Mrs. Ruthven Hay of Toronto. His wife predeceased him in 1948, and a brother, Harold F. Ritchie in 1933. Born in Little Current January 14, 1894, he was educated in Little Current public and continuation schools, and took a business course in Toronto. He was literally born into the business which he enjoyed and operated up to his death. A man of ready wit and an apparently inexhaustible stock of humorous stories and anecdotes, he was a keen curler, a keen hunter, and in his younger days an outstanding hardball and hockey player. He was a past master of Doric Lodge 455 A.F. & A.M., a member of United Church, and a regular member of the United Church Choir. Service was held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with a Masonic service at the grave side. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery.
