Read More	Obituary, Manitoulin Expositor William David Ritchie The sudden passing of Mr. Ritchie was received in Little Current as a shock on Friday, few realizing the end was so near although for the past two years he had been in failing health. The last two years of his life were spent at Simcoe Hall, Allandale, where his death occurred. For nearly forty years Mr. Ritchie operated a grocery and bakery business in Little Current being one of the pioneer merchants of this town. Widely known throughout the district the passing of this old and highly esteemed resident and merchant is deeply regretted by all. Born in Odgednsburg, N.Y. Mr. Ritchie came to Canada when two years of age and settled with his family in Bobcageon, he later married Matilda Johnston on Dec. 19th, 1879. Forty-six years ago he came to Little Current and for nine years was shipper and inspector for the mill operated by the Bank of Toronto later the Red Mill. Retiring from this he was engaged in the business which is being carried on today by his son, M.W. Ritchie. During his life he took an active part in the building up of the town, served as a Councillor and also a member of the school board on several occasions and always took an active part in the affairs of the town . He was a lifelong Conservative. Mr. Ritchie was a Presbyterian until the union and later was a member of the United Church of Canada. Those left to mourn their loss are one daughter, Mrs. Ruthven Hay, Forest Hill Village, Toronto, and one son, Morland, at home. Mr. Ritchie was predeceased by the late Mrs. Ritchie on Dec. 29, 1932, and by his eldest son, the late Harold F. Ritchie who passed away on Feb. 22nd, 1933. The remains were brought to little Current on Saturday by train and services were held from the United Church and the graveside by the Rev. E. E. Weeks, Anglican minister of Manitowaning. Surrounded by a beautiful bank of flowers and his former friends and associates the last rites and services were performed and the remains were interred in Mountain View Cemetery. Mr. Howard Smith directed the funeral, assisted by O.T. Bennett. The pall bearers were: H. Currie, G.E. Baxter, Jas. Wilkin, N. Trotter, F.B. Gray and J. N. Sisson.
