Read More	Reno Evening Gazette Thursday, November 11, 1937 Old Telegrapher Dies At Home In Reno An early resident of Nevada and one of the old time telegraph operators, Wallace Coffin died last night at the home of his brother, E.B. Coffin, on West Fifth Street. He had been in poor health for the past two years. Born in Nantucket, Mass., eighty three years ago he came west with his mother in 1856 to join his father who had gone to Yankee Jim, one of the California gold camps, during the gold rush days. Young Coffin learned to be a telegraph operator when a boy, and first came to nevada sixty years ago to work for the Western Union Company. For many years he was a railroad dispatcher, working for the Central Pacific, later the Southern Pacific line, the V.& T. Railroad and the old C.& C. line. Eight years ago he retired from active business and made his home with his brother, who is city councilman from the fifth ward. Active in fraternal affairs, he was a member of Amity Lodge of Masons at Dayton, the Knights of Pythias, the Odd Fellows and the Elks. Surviving are two sons, Harry L. Coffin of Watsonville and W.A. Coffin of Portland, Ore., a grandson, Loren Coffin, a great grandson, Harry Wallace Coffin, and four brothers, E.B. Coffin, Nelson Coffin and Dr. Charles A. Coffin of Reno and George L. Coffin of Kent, O. He was the uncle of Mrs. Alton Glass, Mrs. Thelma Porteous, Harold Coffin, Miss Ruth Coffin, Mrs. Mabel Heidenreich and Mrs. Evelyn Semenza. Funeral services will be held at two o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the O'Brien & Nugent chapel. The officers of Reno Lodge, No 13, F.& A.M., will conduct the rites, and burial will be in the Knights if Pythias Cemetery.
