Lassen here, died Sunday as a result of a heart ailment. He had been ill only a few days. Coffin aided in financing and building the hotel in 1926, and last year he and his son-in-law, Fred T. Abbay, purchased the holdings of the hotel from several other interested parties. He was a native of Yankee Jims, Placer County, California, and was one of a family of eight boys, five of whom survive. Four of them, Wallace, Nelson, Ed and Charles, are residents of Reno, while George is a resident of Akron, Ohio. His wife, Amelia Coffin, and his daughter, Mrs. Fred T. Abbay, also survive him. Coffin was a member of Fernley Lodge No. 34, F. & A. M., also a member of the Scottish Rite Order in Reno and Ben Ali Temple of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in Sacramento. He also belonged to the Elks Lodge in Reno, and became a charter member of the Susanville Rotary Club in 1926, having a perfect attendance record until his death. Funeral services under the auspices of the Masonic Order were held here this afternoon at the Edinholm Morrill Funeral Home. Services were conducted by J. A. Parder, assisted by Rev. E. L. Spalding. Following the services the body was taken to the Chapel of the Chimes in Piedmont, California for cremation. Members of the family and friends who left here for committal services tomorrow are Mrs. Coffin, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Abbay, M. S. Tibble, Dr. Brooks, Miss Marie Muggler and Dr. Forson.
