WALTER EDWARD LUEDEKE Walter Edward Luedeke, son of Rev., and Mrs. F. A. Luedeke, was born in Chicago, Ill., December 29, 1889, and passed away at the Pawnee Memorial Hospital, June 17, 1967. He received his education in and near Chicago and was confirmed in the Evangelical church in Hinsdale, Ill., and was an associate member of the First Baptist Church, Pawnee City at the time of his death. He came to Nebraska with his parents in 1910, when his father came to minister at the Evangelical church south of DuBois, later they moved northwest of Steinauer, when his father went to be pastor of the Maple Grove church, Pawnee City has been his home since 1917. He served his country in World War I and was a member of the Thomas Little Post No. 168 og the American Legion. He was a member of the Pawnee Volunteer Fire Department for 38 years, serving as secretary for 18 years After his return from the Army he worked as a mechanic then operated a Battery Shop in thr Booth and Boehmer Chevrolet Garage, In 1943 he went to the County Shop as Bookkeeper, a position he held for 22 years, ill health forcing his retirement. August 30th, 1927, he was united in marriage to Abbie A. Hunley and to this union one daughter, Evelyn Elnora, was born . He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one half-brother and one half-sister. Surviving are his wife, Abbie; daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Larry Caldwell, Newman Grove, one niece, Mrs. Albert Vrtiska, Pawnee City; two nephews, Douglas Luedeke, Omaha and Edgar Luedeke, DuBois; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Florence Luedeke, Omaha and several great nieces and nephews.
