Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005 in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church northeast of Potter with Pastor Ted Bourett officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Potter Fire Department and Rescue Unit or the Lutheran Hour. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney. Walter Edgar Schubarth, the son of Arthur Otto Joseph and Lydia Concordia (Steffens) Schubarth was born November 26, 1916 at Whittenburg, Missouri. As an infant, he moved with his family to a farm north of Potter, Nebraska where he grew up and attended St. Paul's parochial school. On September 6, 1939 he was united in marriage to Lillian Helen Dedic in the St. Paul's Lutheran parsonage. Walter farmed 1/2 mile south and 1/2 mile east of the church. They lived there until December 5, 1945 when they had a sale and moved into Potter. He worked for the Co-op gas station before moving to Sidney, Nebraska where he worked at the Co-op gas station. In 1951 Walt and Lil and family moved to Eldorado Springs, Missouri on a farm for less than a year, moving back to Sidney because of his poor health. He went to work for the Ford Garage and Lillian started selling Stanley products. She had a chance for advancement in the company and they moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1955 where Walt worked for Elmer's Chief Mobil gas station. Lillian died on March 2, 1970 and in February of 1973, Walt moved back to Potter and made his home with his mother and brother Butch on the farm. He had been a resident of the Beverly Health care in Sidney since 1995. Survivors include four daughters: Joyce Moench of Garland, TX, Lila Owens and husband Thad of Ft. Myers, FL, Colleen Knepke of Wray, CO and Sharon Schubarth of Cheyenne, WY; one brother, Elmer "Butch" Schubarth of Potter, NE; one sister, Edna Hilpert of Potter, NE; one sister-in-law, Eldora Schubarth of Sidney, NE; 7 Grandchildren and 9 Great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers: George and Rudolph and two sisters: Viola Hilpert and Hilda Jacobs.
