Walter Lee Maguire was born at New Richmond, Wisconsin, on December 23, 1874, and moved with his parents to Clear Lake, Wis., at an early age. Orphaned at the age of 19 years, he spent two years in Nebraska and Dakota and then returned to run the home farm. On July 26, 1899 he was married to Carrie Sanford of Reeve, Wis. In 1903 they came to Chelan, where they homesteaded in the Boyd District and made their home there until Mr. Maguire's health failed and they moved into town. The first two years in Washington he was in partnership at the Ufford sawmill. He farmed until 1930 when he went to work for the Forest Service, working there until unable to carry on. He died in the Community hospital early Sunday morning, following a heart attack. Mr. Maguire had been a member of the Chelan Lodge 169, IOOF, and Cascade Rebekah Lodge 131, for the past 25 years and was a member of Wenatchee Guiding Star Encampment. He loved his fellow man and was happy when he was doing for others. He is survived by his wife, Carrie; two sons, Hugh of Chelan, and Jack of Corpus Christi, Texas, and nine grandchildren.
