Description	:	WALTER L. MORRELL Walter Lee Morrell, son of George and Caroline Hofsas Morrell, was born near Perry, Ill., Jan. 22, 1876, and died at the Protestant hospital in Burlington, Nov. 7, 1947, aged 71 years, 9 month and 16 days. With the family he came to Birmingham in 1894, when they settled on the farm south of town now occupied by the Clyde Nelsons. He attended the Birmingham high school, graduating in 1897. After a course of further study in the Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls, he taught for a few years. He was married to Minta Glotfelty March 1, 1905. Mrs. Morrell died Jan. 18, 1941. They lived for a short time on his father's farm south of town, and later on his own farm northwest of Birmingham, moving to their home in town in 1914. They had one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Gibson of Sac City, Iowa. There are also three grandchildren. His only brother, John, died in 1932. Besides his daughter and her family he is survived by his sister, Mrs. Clyde Nelson of Birmingham; with other relatives and friends. He had been a faithful and active member of the Methodist church in Birmingham since 1900. He has served as a S. S. superintendent, as a member of and president of the official board, and for many years as an S. S. teacher. He was active in affairs of the church until illness forced his retirement. He was also active in various civic affairs of the community.
