Description	:	Walter W. Reese, son of Walter and Lillie Reese, was born on a farm near Pleasanton, Nebraska June 3, 1898, and passed away on June 24, 1956 in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 58 years and 21 days. On June 9, 1922 he was united in marriage to Ella Lammers and to this union three children were born. He spent his early life farming in the Pleasatnon community. Reese, son of Walter and Lillie Reese, was born on a farm near Pleasanton, Nebraska June 3, 1898, and passed away on June 24, 1956 in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 58 years and 21 days. On June 9, 1922 he was united in marriage to Ella Lammers and to this union three children were born. He spent his early life farming in the Pleasatnon community. He started working in the Pleasanton State Bank in 1926 and later helped establish and become the manager of the Pleasanton Cooperative Credit Association, and during this time also worked with the Federal Farm Loan Association in this area. One July 21, 1936 he entered the Postal Transportation Service and with his family moved to Omaha. He continued in this work until the time of his death. He served 2 1/2 years in the U.S. Navy during WWI. He was awarded the Navy Cross with a citation for bravery. Navy Cross Citation "The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Fireman First Class Walter W. Reese, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service as member of the crew of the Armed Guard of the U.S.S. George G. Henry. Fireman First Class Reese was recommended for heroic and excellent behavior, coolness, skill, and bravery under gunfire of a German submarine when the George G. Henry was attacked 29 September 1918.' Walter has been active in the Army and Navy Legion of Valor Organization. He was a member of St. Paul Methodist church in Omaha, Lotus Lodge No.289 A.F. and A.M. at Ravenna, Nebraska, Narcissus Chapter of Eastern Star No. 269, Scottish Rite, Tangier Shrine, Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, American Legion Benson Post No. 112 and Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 2503. Those who survive are his wife, Ella, Omaha, Nebraska; two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Dewhirst of Oconto, Nebraska, Mrs. Ardith Stickman of McCook, Nebraska, and one son, Walter W. Reese Jr., Omaha, Nebraska. Also four grandchildren, Vickie Dewhirst, Clark Reese, Bobby and David Stickman; one sister Bertha Reese; two brothers, Ray and Clarence of Pleasanton; also many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and a brother, Albert. Services were held at Kremer Mortuary, Omaha, Neb. at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 1956 with the Rev. Kenneth W. Hicks officiating. He was buried from the E.U.B. church, Pleasanton, Nebraska Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. John F. Wichelt in charge of the service. Graveside serviced were conducted by Lodge No. 289 A.F. and A.M. Ravenna, Nebraska. The pallbearers were Kenneth Hendren, Ed Talbot, Jim Darby, Dick Darby, Lloyd Lammers, and Earl Eaton.
