Warren Dean Pool, 91 years of age, of Lincoln, Nebraska (formerly of Alma), passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016 at Holmes Lake Rehabilitation and Care Center in Lincoln. He was born January 28, 1925 in Speed, Kansas, the son of John Lemuel and Elsie Fern (Ring) Pool. Following his education, he enlisted in the United States Army on March 10, 1943 at Denver, Colorado and served during World War II in the 872nd Airborne Engineers Aviation Battalion. Warren served in New Guinea, the Philippines, and the Battle of Okinawa in Japan. He was honorably discharged on December 17, 1945 at Ft. Logan, Colorado. On July 25, 1948, Warren was united in marriage to Madeline A. Ruhs at Ragan, Nebraska and to this union six children were born: Dennis, Michael, Patricia, Danny, Connie and Scott. Warren was employed at the CO-OP Refinery (Transportation Division) in Phillipsburg, Kansas and later worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads as the Maintenance Foreman in Alma until his retirement in 1986. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a passion for woodworking crafts. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Nathan Garcia; and his siblings: Edgar Pool, Harlan Pool, John Pool, Jr., Larry Pool, Robert Pool, and Delmar Pool. Warren is survived by his children: Dennis Pool and his wife, Brenda of Omaha, Nebraska, Michael Pool of Lincoln, Patricia Garcia of Lincoln, Danny Pool of Bertrand, Nebraska, Connie Garcia and her husband, Tony of Mount Vernon, Washington and Scott Pool and his wife, Kathleen of Everett, Washington; sister, Loris Roettger of Syracuse, Nebraska; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. There was no visitation or memorial book signing, the family honored his wish for cremation. A memorial has been established in Warren’s honor and kindly suggested to the Faye Cady American Legion Post #118 in Alma; the Harlan County Senior Center in Alma; or to the Holmes Lake Rehabilitation and Care Center, 6101 Normal Blvd. in Lincoln, Nebraska.
