Bissell, 87, retired hardware merchant of Wolbach, died at 2:30 Thursday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. H. Holm. Mr. Bissell had suffered a paralytic stroke in July, 1943, and had been bedfast since that time. Last rites were held Sunday afternoon at the Dr. A. H. Holm residence at 2:45 and then at the Methodist church with Rev. A. Clyde Ehret officiating, under the direction of McIntyre's. Interment was in Hillside cemetery. The choir sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "Rock of Ages," and "No Night There." Pallbearers were: Paul Paulsen, Ted S. Smith, Jacob DeLaurant, W. L. Cartwright, E. H. Davis and A. H. Holm. Henry Watson Bissell, son of Aaron and Catherine Bissell, was born in Algonquin, Canada, October 21, 1858 and died at the home of his daughter, Feb. 28, 1946 at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 7 days. He emigrated with his parents from Canada, when 19 years old to a farm in Saline county, Nebraska, near Friend, where he worked as a farm hand and cowboy. On Oct. 26, 1881, he was united in marriage to Susan Jane Lenox. To this union 4 children were born, two of which, Ralph and Hazel, preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, son Roy P. and daughter Mrs. Mabel C. Holm, all of Wolbach; three grandchildren, Charles Bissell of Grand Junction, Colo., Mrs. Betty J. Wibbels and Mrs. Dorothy H. Beethe of Lincoln, and great grandchild, Dennis E. Bissell of Grand Junction, Colo. In 1883 he entered the hardware business in Friend, continuing until 1898, when he moved to a farm 3 1/2 miles south of Wolbach. Then in 1903 he moved to Wolbach to engage in the Lumber and Hardware business as Bissell, Seavey & Bissell. In May of 1907 he moved with his family to Maywood, Neb. engaging in the real estate business until 1911 when they moved to Beaver Crossing, and with his son Roy, was in the garage business for eight years. In the fall of 1925 they returned to Wolbach, where they have resided since. He was a life long member of the Methodist church and for many years served on the official board of his church. Bissell, York; Mrs. Annie Warner, York; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brown, Friend; Mrs. George Lenox, Roy Lenox, John Lenox and Walter Orman, Curtis; Mr. and Ms. Leonard Wibbels, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Beethe, Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Dell Lenox, and Larry Curtis, Mr. and Mrs. Charles McCaslin, Mr. and Mrs. J. Manley Davis and Ralph Sutton, Grand Island, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Wibbels, Elba, and Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Davis of Ord.
