Wayne Marlyn Kock was born on January 11, 1940 to Henry "Hank" F. and Johanna Maude (Marks) Kock near Davis, SD. The family moved to a farm near Beresford, SD, when Wayne was 5 years old and then to the farm west of Lennox in 1949. He attended Ashlawn country school and graduated from Lennox High School in 1958. After graduating, Wayne helped to build a new sanctuary for Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Lennox and also worked for the Canton Lumbar Yard, before he married Berdine Kock on June 9, 1961 at LaValley Presbyterian Church, rural Lennox, where they attended until the late 60's, when they joined the Ebenezer family. Wayne and Berdine made their home in Canton, where Wayne worked for the local lumbar yard until they moved to a farm west of Lennox in 1962. They farmed there for 3 years and then moved to a farm east of Lennox for 9 years. In 1974, they moved to the farm west of Lennox, where his parents had farmed and Wayne grew up. When they retired from farming and milking, Wayne worked for Chancellor Oil, Koyker Manufacturing and also for farming neighbors. In 2007 they moved to their home in Lennox. Wayne and Berdine raised their three children, Terri, Mark and Paul, on the farm, milked many cows, raised some sheep, chickens, pigs and always had a horse or two or three for Wayne to ride or help move cattle with his cowboy friends. After retiring, Wayne and Berdine enjoyed spending winters in south Texas at their home in Weslaco, TX. In the spring of 2021, Wayne suffered multiple strokes, later his cancer reoccurred and other health problems led to his entering the Good Samaritan Center in July. Wayne will always be remembered for the stories he could remember and tell from his childhood and early growing up years and humorous incidents that happened around the farm and in the barn at milking time. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Delmar Fischer, nephew, Dylan Fischer and niece, Joan Kock. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 60 years, Berdine; daughter, Terri (Dave) Townsend, Harrisburg, son, Mark (Lona Sahl), Sioux Falls and Paul (Leanne Goettig), Lennox; two grandchildren: Molly Townsend (Carlo Tarantino), Chicago, IL and John (Brooke) Townsend, Sioux Falls; sister, Ardis Fischer, Tea, brother, Roger (Monica) Kock, Sioux falls, sister-in-law, Loretta (Jim) Pelach, Farmington, MN, brothers-in-law, Wendell (Merline) Kock, Lennox and Merlin (Gloria) Kock, Chancellor and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
