Wendell Kock Augspurger died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1982 at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls. He was born June 20, 1924 in Sioux Falls, the son of Atlee W. and Dorothy (Kock) Augspurger. He grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School in 1942. He served in the US Army in Europe during World War II. In 1946 he and his brothers and father opened a hunting lodge in St. Lawrence, started an auto sales company and later a farm implement business. He was called to active duty with the Miller National Guard during the Korean Conflict. He married Althea Ross January 25, 1953 at St. Lawrence. He along with his brothers and father opened Midwest Supply in Miller in 1958 and later added tores in Chamberlain and Platte. The family has continued in business together for 36 years. He was a life member of both the American Legion and VFW, a member of St. Lawrence Lodge No. 39, AF & AM, Lions Club, Civic and Commerce Association serving as board member and several terms as treasurer, First United Methodist Church and past member of its administrative board and chairman. He is survived by his wife; three sons, Dennis, Mountain View, CA, Terry Miller, Stephen, maple Grove, MN; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Stephen (Kim) Augspurger; a granddaughter, Katie Jane; three brothers, Kenneth, and Marvin, both of Miller, Robert, Chamberlain and a sister, Mrs. John (Delores) Deardorff, Wilmington, DE. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Roland and a sister, Ione. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church, Miller.
