Born in Chester, he was a son of the late Captain Harold and Essie Hilchie. Wharton was a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church and F.E. Butler Branch 44, Royal Canadian Legion, Chester; a past member of Chester Golf Club and Curling Club. He served in the reserve army during the Second World War. Born in Chester, he was a son of the late Captain Harold and Essie Hilchie. Wharton was a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church and F.E. Butler Branch 44, Royal Canadian Legion, Chester; a past member of Chester Golf Club and Curling Club. He served in the reserve army during the Second World War. He also worked with his father aboard transfer boats delivering goods and people to ships in Bedford Basin, which were preparing to go overseas. He worked for many years in the wholesale and retail fish businesses, on his own and with Hilchie Bros. Ltd. In his younger years, he was an avid hockey player, being a great asset to the Chester Ravens. In his retirement, he enjoyed playing pool at Chester Legion with and against his brother, George. Wharton is survived by brother, George, Chester; stepson, James Smith, Shelburne; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Smith), and his long-time companion, Aggie Parker; brothers, Theodore and Frank; sisters, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Marie. There will be no visitation or flowers at Wharton's request. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in the Royal Canadian Legion, Chester, with Father Jim McCorriston and Legion Chaplain Dick Logan officiating. Burial at a later date. Donations in Wharton's memory may be made to St. Stephen's Anglican Church Building Fund or Shoreham Village Palliative Care Unit.
