Read More	The Elgin Review Elgin, Nebraska Friday, 28 September 1928 WILBUR NOTT Wilbur Walter Nott was born at Tonawanda, Niagra County, New York, on October 1, 1848, and passed away at the home of his son near Elgin, Nebr., at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 19 days, after a short illness following a paralytic stroke. Wilbur Nott lived at Tonawanda until 1856, when at the age of eight he moved with his parents to a farm near Lodi, in Columbia County, Wisconsin. There he received his education and grew to manhood. There too, as he hunted in the woods and fished in the rivers, he acquired his great love and knowledge of the outdoors which was the delight of all who knew him. He was married to Mary Henry at Lodi on October 20, 1872. Four children were born to them, one son, Walter, and three daughters, Ida, LaBertha and Clara, all of whom survive. In March 1888, the family moved to Elgin, Nebr., where Mr. Nott has made his home continuously since that time. He and his family lived on the farm on which he died, now the home of his son, until the fall of 1893 when they moved to the home one mile north of Elgin, where he lived until the fall of 1926. In August 1914, his wife passed away after a long period of illness. Wilbur Nott was appreciative and of cheerful disposition by nature, and all his children and grandchildren were reared by the admonition which he practiced, to never let the sun go down with a grudge in one's heart. He lived that philosophy, being the friend of all who knew him, and having a kindly word for all he met. He made friends readily, especially with children, of whom he was very fond. Hundreds of children have known him as "Grandpa Nott" and have set upon his knee while he told them stories of former days. Broad minded and progressive, he was always interested in the affairs of the community in which he lived for forty years. One son, three daughters, nine grandchildren, one brother and one sister survive. The son is Walter of Elgin and the daughters are Ida Bishop of Omaha, LaBertha Earing of Neligh and Clara Elder of Omaha. The sister, Ellen Gottschall lives at Baraboo, Wis. and the brother, Welcome, makes his home at Lodi, Wis.
