Brown which occurred at the Brown home on Winter Street at 8:30 o'clock on Wednesday morning, Ashland lost one of its best and most intelligent druggists who ever did business in this place. Mr. Brown was born in Bridgewater May 3, 1862 and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Brown. He attended school in Bridgewater and Ashland and after graduating from the school in this place entered the employ of A.F. Porter to learn the druggist business. He worked for Mr. Porter from August 1882 to the fall of 1886, when he entered the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1888. He again entered the employ of Mr. Porter where he worked until about ten years ago, when he went into business for himself at the store which he owned at the time of his death. Mr. Brown was considered one of the best pharmacists in the state and when he graduated at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy he was the first in rank of a large class. He was a member of Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and of the Knights of Pythias. He was also president of the Passaconaway Boys' Club which is composed of the prominent businessmen of this place who own property on the lake. Mr. Brown has been president of that club since its organization, which was about 18 years ago. He represented his town in the legislature in 1895. He is survived by a wife and three children, a mother, Mrs. Horace Brown, and two brothers, Ora A. Brown and Burdette Brown of this place. At the time of his death he was attended by Dr Huckins and Dr Spaulding of this place, Dr Bancroft of Concord, Dr Palmer of Plymouth and Dr Harry Cheney of Campton. He died of multiple neuritis, an acute nervous affliction, and at the time of his death his relatives were at his bedside. >The Ashland Citizen, November 24, 1906, p2. The funeral of Winifred F. Brown, whose death occurred at the Brown residence on Winter Street, was held Sunday afternoon at 2'oclock from the Freewill Baptist Church, with Rev. J. Franklin Babb of Laconia as officiating clergyman, Assisted by the Rev. Mr. Avery of this town. The Rev. Mr. Babb was a former clergyman of the local Freewill Baptist Church and a personal friend of Mr. Brown. He preached a very touching sermon upon the life of Mr Brown and spoke in a few well chosen sentences of the generosity of the man. The Oberon Quartet of Laconia furnished music. The funeral was the largest which this town has seen for many a day, nearly every resident showing their respect for the man by attending the last rites. The church was unable to cope with the large crowd of townspeople, many being obligated to stand in the aisles and on the sidewalk before the church. The Masons, Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias, and Eastern Star orders, all of which Mr Brown was a member, attended the funeral in a body. The Masons performed their services both at the church and at the cemetery. The floral display was magnificent. The bearers were W.F. Hardy, F.S. Huckins, G.B. Robie, John Lord, A.W. Cooley and Bert Smythe. Ellis G. Gammons was in charge of the funeral. Interment took place in Green Grove Cemetery. By the death of Wilfred F. Brown Ashland has lost one of its leading pharmacists and the state one of the most interested citizens of the town. He is survived by a widow, three children, Ethel, Mary and Wilfred, two brothers, Ora A. Brown and Burdette Brown, and a mother, Mary A.
