Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Allen, Neb. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Wilfred Lester Nobbe was born Dec. 3, 1924, in Allen, the son of Fred and Minnie (Mattis) Nobbe. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He married Doris Elaine Fitch on Sept. 8, 1948, in Dixon, Neb. The couple lived in Concord, Neb., from 1954 until 1990 when they moved to South Sioux City. Wilfred was a self-employed trucker, later driving for Nelson Trucking. He then was employed in maintenance at Waldbaum's in Wakefield, Neb. He was a member of Fist (First) Lutheran Church. He enjoyed sitting outside watching traffic and visiting with friends and neighbors as they passed by. He was an avid gardener and loved his flowers. He appreciated the loving care and visits with the nurses at Regency Assisted Living , Regency Nursing Home and Mercy Medical Center. Survivors include three sons and their wives, Gary and Janet of Rockwell City, Iowa, and Larry and Coleen and Alan and Mary all of South Sioux City, Sioux City Journal June 1, 2011
