Dold (Willie), 80, beloved brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully after a long illness and courageous battle on May 15, 2008. He was surrounded by his loving family. Willie was born Jan. 31, 1928 in Colwich, Kan. to Herman and Katherine Freund Dold. Upon graduation from Andale High School, he volunteered in the United States Navy and proudly served on the USS Shangri-La (CV 38), in the Pacific Theatre with duty in the Marianna Islands on Guam, Tinian and Saipan. He received the WWII Victory Medal, Asian Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Upon his return from military service, he married Patricia Hays. They were married 58 years, five months, 26 days and now for eternity. Willie was a long-time farmer and rancher in the Andale, Colwich and Garden Plain, Kan. area. He was a steward of the land and loved every moment and the opportunity to farm. He was a true son of Kansas from "the country of small towns and big churches." He was committed to the preservation and the economy of these small communities and served on the Renwick School Board and the Garden Plain Coop Board of Directors. He was an avid supporter of Andale and Garden Plain High School sports and a regular attendant at all of his children and grandchildren's sporting events. He had a lifelong interest in the children of these communities, took pride in their accomplishments and was a source of encouragement to them to excel in the pursuit of their life dreams. Surviving are his loving wife, Patricia, and children, Mark (Donna), Raleigh, N.C.; Greg, Vancouver, Wash.; Neal, Cheney, Kan.; Dian (Tim) Pauly, Hutchinson, Kan.; Roch (Linda), Overland Park, Kan.; Kent (Jennifer), Pensacola, Fla.; Kurt, Garden Plain, Kan.; Joan (Mark) Pauly, Viola, Kan.; 33 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Willie is also survived by his sister, Alfreda Passaglia, Littleton, Colo. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Dold, Colwich, Kan. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the physicians at Hutchinson Clinic/Hospital, Hutchinson, Kan. and the caregivers at Riverside Village and Harry Hynes Hospice, Wichita, Kan. The professionalism and personal kindness with dignity shown our brother, father and loving husband has been exemplary and reassuring to our family. Rosary was held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Garden Plain, Kan., on May 19. The funeral mass was held on Tuesday, May 20 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Garden Plain. Burial followed in St. Anthony Cemetery, Garden Plain. Memorials may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202 and the Renwick Education Foundation, 600 West Rush, P.O. Box 68, Andale, KS 67001-0068. Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Garden Plain, was in charge of arrangements.
