Description	:	Mrs. Henry Raver passed away last Friday morning at the home of her son. Wm. H., northwest of town, at the advanced age of 88 years and 1 month. She had been in feeble health for some time and a paralytic stroke a few weeks ago hastened the final summons. Minnie Rossman was born in Germany, April 5, 1823. On March 4, 1844, she was united in marriage to Henry Raver, who preceded her in death about twelve years ago. Deciding to leave the Fatherland and brave the fortunes of the new world, they embarked for the United States... Read More	Mrs. Henry Raver passed away last Friday morning at the home of her son. Wm. H., northwest of town, at the advanced age of 88 years and 1 month. She had been in feeble health for some time and a paralytic stroke a few weeks ago hastened the final summons. Minnie Rossman was born in Germany, April 5, 1823. On March 4, 1844, she was united in marriage to Henry Raver, who preceded her in death about twelve years ago. Deciding to leave the Fatherland and brave the fortunes of the new world, they embarked for the United States June 9, 1863, landing at New York on the 19th of August. They lived in New York for a time, but in 1865 went to Canada, returning to the States in 1869 and settling in Illinois. Leaving that state they lived for a time in Iowa and then journeyed on to endure and enjoy the life of the pioneer in Dakota. In 1890 they returned to Iowa, locating near the village of Westfield and living there until eight years ago, when she removed to the present home of her son, Will, where, on May 5, 1911, at 3 a. m., she departed this life and walked through "the valley of the shadow"— "A life well spent, A race, well run, After life's toil A rest well won." She was the mother of nine children, two of whom preceded her in death. Those who remain to mourn her departure are: Henry, of Port Huron, Mich.; Fred, of Kadot, Wis.; John, of Canton, S. D.; William, of Union county, S. D.; Elizabeth, in eastern Canada; Lena, of Camby, Minn.; Ellen, of Anacortea, Wash. There is also a stepson, Albert, of San Diego, Cal., to whom she was ever a true and devoted mother. The funeral was held Sunday forenoon at 11 o'clock, at the home. Rev. Nickerson, pastor of the Congregational church at Westfield, conducted the service. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery, beside her husband. Those coming to the funeral from a distance were her son, John, and wife, from Canton, and Mr. and Mrs. Ren. Pike, of Elk Point, old friends and neighbors. Card of Thanks.
