Was In Her 83rd Year Survived by Husband, Five Children: and 15 Grandchildren; Funeral Service Sunday Mrs. William Falkenburg, in her 83rd year, passed away early Friday morning at her home in Williamsburg, death terminating an illness that set in more than two years ago. She had enjoyed remarkably good health until her advanced years brought in their weaknesses and during this period she required and received the constant care of her loyal husband. Three weeks ago she became bedfast, and the weakened body gave up the struggle Friday morning. The funeral services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at two o'clock Sunday, following a short service at the home. The service at the church was in German and in English. In the absence of the pastor, the Rev. H. P. Greif, the Rev. R. Uhlmann of Immanuel's church, of which the deceased was a member for many years, conducted the service in German and preached the splendid sermon in the same tongue. Miss Adella Maas presided at the pipe organ and accompanied the congregational singing. The service in English was conducted by the Rev. E. Hempel, pastor of Trinity church, Conroy, and the text from which the scholarly sermon was preached was from John 14:1-6: "Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's House there are many mansions. If not, I would have told you, because I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself; that where I am, you also may be. Thomas said to him: Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith to him; I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father but by me." It was from these memorable words, spoken by our Saviour to his disciples after his last supper, that the Rev. Mr. Hempel worked out the very impressive funeral discourse, and from introduction to the close of the sermon, the entire verses of the text were rightly and aptly interpreted, forming a discourse most befitting the solemn occasion, and highly instructive to the large congregation present, a representative gathering of neighbors of the deceased, many being present from the old home neighborhood in York. The internment was in Immanuel's cemetery, York, with the services at the grave conducted by the Rev. R. Uhlmann, and the pallbearers were: George Maas, George Glandorf, Henry Schaefer, Fred Hopp, Henry Iburg, and Henry Maas. The funeral procession was imposing in its length and included representatives from Marengo, South Amana, Homestead, Newhall, Wellman, Holbrook, and North English. Wilhelmine Carolina Zimmermann was born March 17, 1848, in the province of West Prussia, Germany, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the church of her nativity. In 1873 she was united in marriage to Gottlieb Ristau, and the young couple soon emigrated to America and the home was established in the state of New York. Soon after arriving in this country she was bereft of her husband and after a lapse of three years she was united in marriage to Adolph Schulz; this union separated by the death at the end of six years, and the mother and her children soon came to Iowa County where she labored hard in the task of keeping her young family together. On Sept. 20, 1889, she was united in marriage with Mr. William Falkenburg, and the home was made on a farm in York Township, and here it was happily continued for many years until advanced years urged retirement from the farm upon which they prospered, and Williamsburg became the home. She is survived by the husband, five children, and fifteen grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs. Chris Teggatz died twelve years ago, and the living children are: Gus Ristau, Kaukanna, Wisc; Mrs. John Werner, York Township; Mrs. George Eckhardt, Wellman; Mrs. Thomas Wetzel, North English; and Mrs. H.F. Witte, Williamsburg. Besides these she leaves two brothers, August Zimmerman, South Amana; and Ferd Zimmerman, Hilton Township. In the passing of Mrs. Falkenberg the community has met with a loss that must be felt by all who knew her. In her were lessons and examples at once edifying and uplifting; she lived for and deeply loved her home; she was never worrried over vain conceits but faithfully followed the path of right and honor. She loved her family with an abiding love and was ever ready to make sacrifices for their help. She lived in this community for fifty years, coming here with a group of fatherless children, and only the older residents can remember the sublime faith and courage she displayed when every day meant a battle or a march, and these she met with a cheer born of Christian fortitude. Thrift and industry were her sisters and with these she won victories that imbued her with new strength, new courage. These great traits of character she carried through life and from their warp and woof she gave to the world a son and daughters six for whom she was never called upon to feel other than the promptings of a mother's pride. She was ever faithful to the church of which she was a life-long member, and to its wholesome precepts and moral training she attributed the peace, happiness, and contentment that cheered the path of her later years. To her loyal and faithful companion of more than forty years the community extends its sincere sympathy for the great loss he is called upon to bear, and may the memory of his faithful spouse be new the solace for sorrow.
