Description	:	Willa A. Van Cleef was born on a farm near Narka, Kansas on August 28, 1901 and died at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln on August 24, 1979, just four days before her 78th birthday. She was the only daughter of Edmund and Ethel Holly of Narka, Kansas. She attended school there and graduated from Fairbury High School. She attended summer sessions at Hastings College and taught for several years at Hubbell Public Schools. She was the only daughter of Edmund and Ethel Holly of Narka, Kansas. She attended school there and graduated from Fairbury High School. She attended summer sessions at Hastings College and taught for several years at Hubbell Public Schools. Willa was married to George Dewey Van Cleef at Hubbell on August 6, 1924 and was mother to one daughter, Bonnie June. She moved with her family to Chester in 1933 where she and her husband, Dewey, were actively involved in the banking business for over 40 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Hubbell and joined the Chester Methodist Church in 1933. She was a past president of the United Methodist Women and was the Church Treasurer up to the time of her death. She was a past president of the Chester Womans Club and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 289. Willa was interested in her community, home, and family. She loved flowers and garden work. She enjoyed sewing and working with and for people. She worked for and supported worthwhile projects and activities of this community with an always positive attitude. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Harold and Manford. She is survived by her husband, G.D. Van Cleef; daughter, Mrs. Harold (Bonnie J.) Porter, son-in-law, Harold R. Porter; three grandchildren, Alan Cole and wife Susan Porter of Osmond, Nebraska, Warren Van Porter of Denver, Colorado, and Timothy Harold Porter of Kearney State College; and two great grandchildren, Angela Sue Porter and Mick Alan Porter. Funeral services were held at the Chester United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m., August 27th, with Rev. Doug Ferguson officiating. Mrs. Dolan Frye was organist for the services and also presented a special organ selection "How Great Thou Art." Mrs. Jack Long and Mrs. Maurice Mitchell were soloists, singing "Sweet Peace". Casket bearers were Jack Long, Rodney Peake, Richard George, William Mumm, Ronald Mumm, Neal Eickamn (sic). Honorary Casket Bearers were Gene Nesmith, Clay Cafferty, Earnest Dunn, W.I. Navis, W.O. Baldwin, Gerald Huckins, Max Derowitsch, Eli Jewell, Robert Thomas and Vincent Henstorf. Burial was in the Chester Cemetery, Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
