Description	:	Bonnie June Porter, the only child of George Dewey and Willa Holly Van Cleef, was born in Hubbell, Nebraska, July 29, 1928. She died in her home, July 19, 1999 at the age of 70 years 11 months and 20 days. She moved with her family to Chester, Nebraska in 1933. She was educated in the Chester Public Schools, graduating in 1946. Bonnie attended Nebraska Wesleyan University earning an elementary teacher's certificate. She was united in marriage to Harold R. Read More	Bonnie June Porter, the only child of George Dewey and Willa Holly Van Cleef, was born in Hubbell, Nebraska, July 29, 1928. She was educated in the Chester Public Schools, graduating in 1946. Bonnie attended Nebraska Wesleyan University earning an elementary teacher's certificate. She was united in marriage to Harold R. Porter on June 2, 1948. To this union three sons were born, Alan, Warren and Timothy. Bonnie spent most of her life working with people. She taught kindergarten in the Lincoln, Dorchester and Chester, Nebraska Public Schools. All three of her sons were privileged to have their mother as their kindergarten teacher. Bonnie spent most of her adult life in the banking profession. She assisted her parents in establishing the State Bank of Chester in 1950. She and her husband purchased the bank in 1975 and at the time of her death she was serving as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors. Through the years she touched many lives serving the community and church with her strength, loyalty, and kindness. She always knew everyone and treated every one with the same respect. She was a member of and leader of numerous community and church organizations. At the time of her death she was the treasurer of the Chester Cemetery Board, and also the United Methodist Women, an office she held for over 30 years. She was a life time member of the United Methodist Church. She was preceeded in death by her parents, George Dewey and Willa Holly Van Cleef, and her husband, Harold R. Porter in December of 1995. She is survived by Alan and Susan Porter, Chester, NE, Warren Porter, Houston, TX, and Timothy and Janell Porter, Olathe, KS; grandchildren, Angela Kuzel and husband, Chad, Gretna, NE, Mick Porter, Lincoln, Anthony Porter, Chester, Benjamin and Jacob Porter, Olathe, KS, and numerous relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 22, 1999, 2 o'clock p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Chester, NE, conducted by the Rev. Nancy Keller and Rev. T.J. Fraser. Soloist was Heath Hoge, and accompanist, Pauline Frye. Casket bearers were: Max Derowitsch, Reuben Schleifer, Jack Long, Wes Rieke, Todd Heinrichs and Egbert Tietjen. Honorary pall bearers were: Irene Long, Marjorie Cafferty, Mary Tietjen, Carol Westover, Huetta Derowitsch, Donna Eickman, Gladys Schleifer and Betty Bradford. Interment was made at the Chester Cemetery, Chester, NE.
