Eugene Rolla Butts (Dr. E. Rolla Butts, a dentist of Three Oaks, Michigan), the son of Elmer Butts and Flora Cranston. The 1910 census shows them living in Buchanan, Berrien Co. Michigan. The 1920 census shows them living in Chicago, Cook County Illinois. The 1930 census shows them still living in Chicago, and Grace's mother Ella French is living with them. d. 1931. Buried: Howe Cemetery. (Her husband Eugene Rolla Butts is buried in the Silverbrook Cemetery, in Niles, Berrien County Michigan). -------- 4. George W. French. b. Nov. 6, 1883, in Bertrand, Berrien County Michigan. m. May 13, 1905, in Buchanan, Berrien County Michigan, to Pauline L. Havener, the daughter of William Clinton Havener and Hattie H. Brown. (Pauline is also the Granddaughter of Isaac Brown and his first wife Sarah E. Hunniker). In 1952, George was living in Chicago, Cook County Illinois (per his brother Fred's obituary). d. 1955. April 27, 1907, "OR" May 5, 1907, in Berrien County Michigan, to Lura M. Keller, the daughter of William H. Keller and Harriet ("Hattie") L. Dwire/Druire/Deviro. (Lura's siblings included Mary E., Florence, and Anna M. Keller). Children: Robert W. French Jr., born 1911 in Indiana, and Ruth L. French, born 1913, in Indiana (Ruth married James Henry Everingham, on June 24, 1935, in Berrien Co. MI). The 1910 census shows Robert Sr. and Lura French living in South Bend, St. Joseph County Indiana. The 1920 census show Robert Sr. and Lura French living in Chicago, Cook County Illinois, with their children Robert Jr., and Ruth, and Robert's sister Grace Butts and husband Eugene R. Butts. The 1930 census of Berrien Co. Michigan shows Lura M. French as a divorced woman, living with her mother Harriet Keller, and Lura's children Robert W. French [Jr.] (1911-1999), and Ruth L. French (1913-1985). (Note: Robert W. French [Jr.] wrote the book titled: "Living Together, Buchanan and Clark, 1904-1975"). Robert Sr. lived in Minneapolis, Hennepin Co. Minnesota in 1935, and in Chicago, Cook County Illinois in 1940. In 1952, Robert Sr. was still living in Chicago, Cook County Illinois (per his brother Fred's obituary). His ex-wife Lura (1888-1935), is buried in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, Michigan, next to her parents, in Section 40, Lot # 8. Their children Robert W. French Jr. and Ruth L. Everingham, are also buried in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, both in Section D, Lot # 225. d. ? Buried: ? _____________________________ Willard was a dairyman. He also served as Bertrand Township Treasurer, Treasurer of the school fund, and Assessor. --- Willard and his brother Henry French raised Percheron horses and choice cattle. --- The "Michign State Gazetteer and Business Directory" lists the "French Brothers Stock Farm" (Willard and Henry French), 1 and 1/2 miles South of Buchanan, Berrien County Michigan. ------------------------------ In June of 1871, Willard purchased a farm from his cousin DeBert Bliss (the son of Hiram Bliss Sr. and his wife Anna (Ross) Bliss), located two miles West-Southwest of Buchanan, MI consisting of 100 acres. It was in the S.-E. corner of Section 33 of Buchanan Township, on the Galien-Buchanan Road. ------------------------------ An article in the "Berrien County Record" newspaper in Buchanan, MI on July 22, 1871, page 3 column 2, states: ---------------- TRANSFER. - On last Monday Willard B. French bought a farm of one hundred acres about two miles west of town, belonging formerly to DeBert Bliss.
