French (born 1895), and Mildred J. French (born 1896), living with Adalina's mother Sophia S. Feather in Oronoko Township, Berrien County Michigan. --------------------------------- Fred was married the second time to Verna B. Huff, on June 2, 1906, in Three Oaks, Berrien County Michigan. (Fred was age 32, and Verna was age 19). Verna is the daughter of George Huff Sr. and his wife Louisa Humphrey/Umphrey. Verna was born Dec. 19, 1887 in MI and she died on May 17, 1966 in Buchanan, MI. ------------------------------- Adalina was living in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County Michigan in 1924. ------------------------------- Adalina died in 1937. ----------------------------- Adalina A. French is buried in the Riverside Cemetery, in Kalamazoo, MI. ----------------------------- Fred and Lina had two daughters: --------- 1. Gladys Sophia French, (1895 - 1987), who married Herbert Freund. They are also buried in the Riverside cemetery in Kalamazoo, MI., near her mother Adalina. ---------------------------- 2. Mildred French (born Nov. 13, 1896, died 1987), who married Clyde Arend. -------------------------------- The following obituary for Fred was published in the "Niles Daily Star" newspaper in Niles, Michigan, on June 25, 1952, page 2: -------------- Deaths. FRED EUGENE FRENCH, 79. Buchanan, June 25--- Fred Eugene French, 79, Berrien county deputy sheriff for 30 years, died at 11:43 p.m. Tuesday at his home, 405 Main street. Funeral services are set for 3 p.m. Friday at the Swem funeral home with the Rev. Carlyle Carson, of the First Prsesbyterian church officiating. Burial will be in Howe cemetery. French was born May 20, 1873, in Bertrand township, the son of Willard B. and Ella French. He married Verna Huff in Three Oaks on June 2, 1906. She survives along with two brothers, George and Robert, both of Chicago. He was a life member of the Elks lodge at Niles. ------------------------------ Note: Fred's obituary does not mention his two living, married daughters (by his first wife), Gladys (French) Freund, and Mildred (French) Arend. ------------------------------
