He was born on October 11, 1923 in Beatrice, Neb., to Charles and Ida (Duitsman) Hertlein. Willard went to country school and graduated from high school in 1941. Read More	Willard Charles Hertlein, 87, Pickrell, Neb., died on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at BryanLGH Medical Center East, Lincoln, Neb. He was born on October 11, 1923 in Beatrice, Neb., to Charles and Ida (Duitsman) Hertlein. Willard went to country school and graduated from high school in 1941. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946 and was discharged as a Motor Machinist First Class. He served in American, European, Mediterranean, and Pacific areas. He married Sharon Jones on November 6, 1948 at St. John in Beatrice. He was a member of the Eagles 531, Bitting Norman Post 27 of the American Legion, Beatrice, B.P. O. Elks, Fairbury Nebraska Lodge 1203, VFW 1077, Tin Can Sailors, Four Stack APD Vets, Kamikaze Survivors Association and the Wymore Country Club. He served on the Pickrell Town Board for many years, was Mayor of Pickrell and past Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department. He was a life member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Pickrell. He retired from Nebraska Public Power District as sub-foreman in 1986. From that time, he spent 6 months is Pharr, Texas, each year. He loved golfing, had two "holes in one" and golfed his age when he was 76. He enjoyed bowling, singing and making stained glass. He is survived by a daughter, Rene D. Rademacher and husband, Renald; son, Charles L. Hertlein and wife, Patty; 4 grandchildren, Kendi McClarnen and husband, Dennis, of Beatrice, Ryan Rademacher and wife, Amy, of Beatrice, Jennifer Mickelson of Lee's Summit, Mo., Brigette Maas and husband, Kevin, of Omaha; great-grandchildren, Paxton, Kenna, Colt, and Kenadi McClarnen of Beatrice, Braedon Rademacher of Beatrice, Skyler Starr and Emily Mickelson of Lee's Summit, Mo., Kingston and Charles Maas of Omaha; sister, Loretta Hagemeier of rural Pickrell; nieces and nephews, cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Hertlein (March 15, 2001); special friend, Dolores Sears (Aug. 21, 2011); parents, Charles (1967) and Ida (Duitsman) Hertlein (1998); grandson-in-law, John Mickelson (Sept. 26, 2010); infant brother; brothers-in-law, Vernon Hagemeier and Wayne Jones; sisters-in-law, Jana Jones and Gary Jones. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, at Christ Lutheran Church, Pickrell, with Pastor Greg DeBoer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice. Visitation will be held at Harman-Wright Mortuary, Beatrice, on Wednesday, Sept. 14, and Thursday (Sept. 15) from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
