He and his parents and siblings were then living in the Castoria Township in San Joaquin County, CA. His parents were James (40) and Susan A. (36) Copeland. Both were born in Tennessee. James was a farmer. There were seven children in the home. All were born in Missouri except the last child, who was born in California. The children were Eliza (16), Margaret (14), John (11), William (9), Elijah (7), James (3), and Elizabeth (1). There was also a George Hall (17) in the household.
