Funeral services for Mr. White will be held Friday afternoon, November 11, at 2:00 o'clock, at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Louis A. Haruf, pastor of the church, in charge of the services. Burial will be made in the Holyoke Memorial Park. Mr. White is survived by his wife, Minnie, of Holyoke, and eight children: Lloyd, Portland, Oregon; Clark, Casper, Wyoming; Philip, Holyoke; Glen, Brigham, Utah; William, Carbondale, Colorado; Josephine Baker, Denver; Mary Brunken, Holyoke, and Martha Broughton, Holyoke. WHITE, RESIDENT OF COUNTY SINCE 1886 One of Phillips County's earliest pioneers was laid to rest Friday afternoon, when services were conducted for W.A. White from the First Methodist Church in Holyoke. Rev. Louis A. Haruf, pastor of the church, officiated. The obituary as read at the services is as follows: William A. White was born October 3, 1867, at Kingston, New York, and was the oldest son of a family of seven children of Robert and Julia Ann White. He passed away November 9, 1949 at 11:00 p.m. He moved with his parents from Kingston to Donavan, Illinois, where he was married to Cora May Barber July 23, 1886. To this union were born five sons and one daughter. He moved from Illinois to Colorado with his wife and parents in 1886. At that time his parents took up a homestead in what is now Phillips County. He worked at railroading a number of years and later took up his own homestead nine miles south of Holyoke, where the family lived several years. Cora May White died August 11, 1906. He married Minnie A. Conklin of Holyoke on August 8, 1908, and born to them were one son and three daughters. Mr. White was appointed postmaster at Holyoke in 1913 and he served in that capacity until 1922. At that time he entered the farm implement business which he operated until he retired some 15 years later. Mr. White became a member of the Methodist Church on December 21, 1919. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, one sister, an infant daughter and one son, Robert. Surviving him are his wife, Minnie A.; five sons, Lloyd of Portland, Oregon, Glen of Gingham, Utah, Clark of Casper, Wyoming, Philip of Holyoke and William, Jr. of Carbondale, Colorado; three daughters, Josephine Baker of Denver, Mary Brunken and Martha Broughton of Holyoke; one brother, R.N. White, Holyoke; two sisters, Belle McFadden, Holyoke, and Sadie Freeland, Sheridan, Missouri; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Special music for the services was furnished by Mrs. C.R. Smythe and Mrs. Gladys Shew. Interment was made in the Holyoke Memorial Park with John Siedenburg, Clarence Johnston, Edwin Neuenschwander, Frank Pugh, Elmer Smith and Mack Burchett, acting as pallbearers. Both are well and favorably known in this county where they have resided for several years. W.A. White is one of the enterprising and successful farmers of the county and enjoys the friendship and respect of a large acquaintance in the county. The bride has for some time been engaged in teaching school and as a sales lady in one of the Holyoke stores. She has a host of friends and is highly thought of by all who know her. They will make their home on the farm in the south part of the county.
