Read More	Holyoke Enterprise, January 17, 2002, Holyoke, Colorado William Alfred Fryrear died Sunday, January 6 at the Heritage Living Center in Haxtun. He was born January 20, 1908 on the family farm at Clatonia, Nebraska to Charles and Lydia Fryrear. In the next few years, two of his brothers, Melvin and Merle were born. When he was 10 years old, the family loaded their animals and few possessions into an emigrant rail car and with the spirit of their pioneer ancestors moved west to the unspoiled prairie of Paoli. His youth could not shelter him from the labors of homesteading this bleak landscape. With his father driving the tractor and plow and Willie driving the horses, they broke the sod of their new farm. He also drove his mother to Holyoke for fuel and supplies as she could not drive. Their attention to detail and pride of workmanship, which were a Fryrear tradition, can still be seen today in the Wages community. His brother Charles, known as Bud, was born at the new home and all four of the Fryrear boys attended the local country school. Bill and his brothers enjoyed playing ball and the celebrations and rodeos of the area. In 1930 Bill married Marjorie Adams of the Waverly community. During the early years of their marriage he worked with team and wagon building up the road between Holyoke and Wray in addition to farming. Those were tough years for his young family and although they were poor, his children never knew poverty, or at least they were kept too busy to notice. Bill and his brothers farmed independently but worked together when necessary such as thrashing time. The brother with the most work treated the others to a feast of chili and oyster stew. Livestock was a part of most every farm in those days and Bill's farm was not an exception. His Angus cows were a source of great pride, but Bill did not just raise cattle with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they exhibited them from the county fair to the large regional and national shows. He also served as the secretary/treasurer of the Northeastern Colorado Angus Association and was a long-time member. After living on the farm for 60 years, Bill and Marjorie moved to Holyoke but he continued working his farm until his "early" retirement at the age of 90. Will is preceded in death by his parents; sister Pearl, who died as an infant; a twin who died at birth; wife Marjorie; brothers Melvin and his wife Mary, Merle and Bud; and son-in-law Charles Toyne. He leaves three daughters, Gloria Toyne of Sedgwick, Donna Oliver and her husband William of Holyoke and Joyce Zwirn and her husband Don of Otis; son Donald (Billie) Fryrear and his wife Sherry of Big Spring, Texas; seven grandchildren, Lynda Firme and her husband Randall of Haxtun, Randal Oliver and his wife Becky of Holyoke, Kathy Bornhoft and her husband Tim of Wellington, Russell Zwirn and his wife Debbie of Yuma and Richard Zwirn and his wife Angie of Yuma, Debbie Farr and her husband Richard of San Angelo, Texas and Kenneth Fryrear and his wife Cindy of Midland, Texas; 14 great-grandchildren, William Ryan Oliver and his wife Jessica, Gentry Leigh Oliver, Jeffrey Dean and Carly Jo Firme, Drew Foster and Tate Matthew Bornhoft, Levi Keller, Brody Matthew and Tylyn Elizabeth Zwirn, Andrea Denise and Bradley William Fryrear and Jake Ryan and Jillian Leigh Farr; three sisters-in-law Betty Adams of Denver, Jo Fryrear of Holyoke and Cleo Fryrear of Haxtun. Funeral services for William "Willie" Alfred Fryrear were held on Friday, January 11 at the First United Methodist Church in Holyoke with Rev. Darrell Dennis officiating. Interment followed at Holyoke Memorial Park.
