Stillians, one of Villisca's business men for 34 years, died Thursday afternoon of last week at his home in they city, his death resulting from paralysis from which he suffered since he was first stricken in Los Angles the latter part of May where he and his wife had gone to spend the summer with relatives. They arrived home from there July 31st. William Alvin Stillians was born in Nodaway County, Missouri, on January 12, 1858, and when he was yet a child he moved with his parents to Hawleyville, Iowa and later to Clarinda. He was married to Tena Straw at Essex, Iowa on June 25, 18885 and to this union five children were born, two of whom are deceased. Those who with the wife and mother survive are Bruce M., Dan, and Marjorie. Mr. Stillian embarked in the drug store business in Villisca in 1892 on the same site as the present Stillians store and he continued in the business all but three of the 34 years from that time until his death. He united with the Methodist Church in Villisca in 1916, and was an honorary member of the Women's Foreign Missionary society, his father, who was a doctor, having been also a Methodist circuit rider. Mr. Stillians afflicted with the Masonic Lodge early in his life and he was a member of Eureka Chapter No. 77, of Corning; Bruce Commanery No. 34, Red Oak; life member of Tangler Temple, Omaha; and a member of Eastern Star, Odd Fellow, and M.W.A. of Villisca. His funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at his home, with Rev E. S. Menoher of Corning, assisted by Rev. Geo. A. Lawton of Villisca in charge. The Masonic order also took part in service. The singing was by the quartet composed of J. H. Todd, H. H. Nordyke, F. L. Gerlach, and H. D. Pleak, W. H. Gridley, Gus Erickson, Dr. H. A. McIntosh, A. F.
