William Ari Carpenter, oldest son of John and Melissa Carpenter, was born August 23, 1881, near Verden, Richardson county (sic), Neb., and passed away October 21, 1954, at Concordia hospital at the age of 73 years, 1 month and 28 days. In 1882 he moved to Marshall county (sic), Kansas, and in December, 1900, he came to Republic county (sic), near Munden, and made that his home. William Ari Carpenter, oldest son of John and Melissa Carpenter, was born August 23, 1881, near Verden, Richardson county (sic), Neb., and passed away October 21, 1954, at Concordia hospital at the age of 73 years, 1 month and 28 days. In 1882 he moved to Marshall county (sic), Kansas, and in December, 1900, he came to Republic county (sic), near Munden, and made that his home. He was united in marriage March 16, 1904, to Pearl Woodside. They made their home in the Ida community 44 years and for the past three years he had lived in Belleville. In the late twenties, the Carpenters adopted two children, Melvin and Emma. He was a member of the Methodist church (sic) in Hubbell, Neb., and attended regularly for a number of years. He also was a member of various organizations in Republic county (sic) for some 30 years. He served eight years as county commissioner, from 1930 to 1938. He also served until a few weeks before his death as a member of the Republic County Selective Service board. His death followed an illness of several months. He was a kind and loving father and will be sadly missed by his relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl, on March 31, 1951, also by his father and mother, two brothers, Harley and Jess, and three sisters, Dolly and Ada Carpenter and Mrs. Rena Jenkins. Will is survived by his two children, Melvin of Belleville and Mrs. Almon Adams of Belleville; four grandsons, Dwight, Gary, Robert and Doyle of Beatrice, Neb.; one brother, Bert Carpenter of Belleville; and two sisters, Mrs. Esta Masten of Hubbell, Neb., and Harriet Carpenter of Fairbury, Neb. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from Munden Methodist church (sic) with the Rev. J.H. Vernon officiating. Burial was in Ida cemetery (sic).
