"Gus" Eggert, a pioneer resident of this community since 1881 died Thursday evening at 9:00 o'clock in the home or his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J.W., Hudson after an extended illness. Impressive rites were held from the Methodist church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon. The Rev. A.J. Rich officiated and Claribel Burt accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Margaret VanBerg sang "God's Way is the Best Way" and "Some Morning." The floral tribute was beautiful and abundant. William August Eggert was born December 28th, 1866, at Princeton, Illinois to Simon Henry and Henrietta Eggert. He departed this life at Aurora, Nebraska on May 24, 1951, at the age of 84 years, four months and 27 days. He had been bedfast since March 15, although he had been confined to his home since the first of the year. When a lad of 15 years he migrated with his parents to Aurora in February 1881. Members of the Eggert family became prominent residents of Hamilton county (sic), spending the remainder of their lives in this community. Mr. Eggert who had lived in the county for 70 years with the exception of six years spent in Greeley county (sic), was the last member of the pioneer family of seven children. On March 20, 1890 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Worthington at Aurora. Four children were born to the couple, Russel of Dallas, Oregon; Leo of Hastings, Mrs. Rissie Huenefeld of Rogers, Ark., and Thelma Hudson of Aurora. At the age of 12 years Mr. Eggert was confirmed in the German Lutheran church, and in later years became a member of the Methodist church in Aurora. He followed the profession of farming throughout his younger life and moved into Aurora in 1917 where he has since resided. Mr. Eggert was a kindly man, devoted to his family and friends. One of his outstanding characteristics was his love of little children. His continued interest in them despite advancing years, made for him many friends among the little folk. Since the passing of Mrs. Eggert on June 17, 1932 he has made his home with his daughter, Thelma, who with her husband have given him devoted care thru the years. In addition to his four children he is survived by nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ed Daniel, H.M. Schoonover, W.H. Menzie, H.J. Bagby, John Quinn and Fred Gingrich. EGGERT AURORA - Funeral services for William A. Egger, 84, who died Thursday, May 24, were held Sunday. Born at Princeton, Ill., he came to Aurora with his parents when he was 15 years old. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are two sons, Russell of Dallas, Ore., Leo of Hastings; two daughters, Mrs. Rissie Huenefeld, Rogers, Ark., and Mrs. Thelma Hudson, Aurora; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
