Description	:	LIFE STORY OF WILLIAM B. RYAN William B. Ryan was born November 14, 1887 at Neola, Iowa. He was the son of Patrick and Anna (Barry) Ryan. In 1904 he graduated from St. Joseph's High School at Neola and started his banking career in the Underwood Savings Bank at Underwood, Iowa. In May of 1911, he transferred to the Farmers & Merchants State Bank at Neola. He was united in marriage on June 14, 1911 to Margaret Finerty at Neola, Iowa. Ryan was born November 14, 1887 at Neola, Iowa. He was the son of Patrick and Anna (Barry) Ryan. In 1904 he graduated from St. Joseph's High School at Neola and started his banking career in the Underwood Savings Bank at Underwood, Iowa. In May of 1911, he transferred to the Farmers & Merchants State Bank at Neola. He was united in marriage on June 14, 1911 to Margaret Finerty at Neola, Iowa. They resided in that community until 1916 when they moved to Earling, Iowa. From 1916 to 1949 Mr. Ryan served as cashier of the Farmers Trust and Savings Bank at Earling until his resignation because of ill health. After his resignation he remained active in banking affairs serving as chairman of the Board of Directors and also continued his duties as manager of the Earling Mutual Telephone Company. He was a past Grand Knight and honorary member of the Earling Council, Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, Earling Independent School Board and Earling Commercial Club. Mr. Ryan passed away on May 11, 1955 at Harlan, Iowa after a lingering illness. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; one son, Philip J. Ryan of Wichita, Kansas; four daughters, Mrs. William A. (Catherine Anne) Carberry of Menlo Park, California; Mrs. Howard (Mary Ellen) Finken of Harlan, Iowa; Mrs. Clement P. (Helen) Brown of Omaha, Nebraska; and Mrs. Robert J. (Alice Margaret) Bevenour of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. William (Mayme) Holzfaster of Earling, Iowa and Mrs. Fred H. (Helen) Geise of Neola, Iowa. Upon her husband's death, Mrs. Ryan was presented with a gold chalice by the Drumm General Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus of Council Bluffs, Iowa, of which Mr. Ryan was a member. The Honor Guard of Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus present were: Gerhard Pogge, Albert McGinn and Edward McGinn of Council Bluffs, Iowa; M. C. Weiland, Norbert Gross, Dominic Lickteig and Alfred Schwery of Defiance, Iowa; A. J. Heese of Earling, Iowa and Ray Lickteig of Westphalia, Iowa. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 14, 1955 at St. Joseph's Church in Earling, Iowa. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Peter A. Bissen was the celebrant at the solemn Requiem High Mass, assisted by Rev. Jerome Schnitker, deacon and the Rt. Rev. Msgr. M. B. Schiltz, sub-deacon. The Rev. H. E. Duren of Westphalia, Iowa and Rev. N. A. Gaul of Portsmouth, Iowa were present in the sanctuary. Pallbearers were John S. Finken, A. J. Heese, Albert Heese, J. J. Langenfeld, Stanley Schimerowski and Vince Stinn, all of Earling, Iowa. Burial services were conducted by the Rev.
