The dead men are William Flanery, 48, owner operator of the Guthrie Center elevator. William Moylan, 58, and employee at the elevator and a former resident of the Bayard and Coon Rapids communities. Flanery was single but Moylan is survived by his widow and seven children including Bernard "Buck" Moylan of Bayard. Although Flanery was dead when the wreck was found and Moylan was unconscious and died without regaining consciousness, it is presumed that either Flanery, the driver, had a heart attack or something went wrong with the car mechanically. Highway patrolman who found the car place the time of the accident at about 10 p.m. and they happened on the scene at about 1 AM Sunday morning. From the tracks along the road it appears as if the car had gradually pulled across the road to the wrong side and then had left the grade and sheared off a telephone pole and lodged against a tree. The patrolman, Cole and Klinkefus, had been patrolling near Bagley and Bayard earlier in the evening with Clark Kindred, deputy sheriff, and were on their way home to Adair. According to their story, the tail light and one headlight on the pickup truck Flannery was driving was still burning and presumably dozens of cars had gone by without stopping to investigate. It was thought that Flanery died instantly but Moylan was still alive when they stopped. However, he died about two hours later in the office of a Guthrie Center doctor. Funeral services for Flanery were held in the Guthrie Center Catholic church Wednesday morning and Moylan's rites were to be held this morning at Guthrie Center with burial scheduled for the Coon Rapids Cemetery.
